I know the economy is bad, but...
--workload of 3 people
--underpaid compared to salary survey for my position
--no growth potential
--management has no idea of what we do
--today told we are getting more work from more clients
--they keep hiring, people keep leaving = treading water
--no time to take vacation days we will lose if we don't take
--clients have insane demands
so,
the fact that I am earning a paycheck is wearing mighty thin.

I have to say 'bad companies' will always be hiring and losing people. The last place I work I heard recently 2 people left (one walked out, the other was either fired or quit)...a newly hired guy is not working out and I am know one other person would jump ship in a shot if she got another offer.
A sad byproduct of 'recession' is that management/corporations get more greedy and 'Scrooge like' and expect the remaining workers to do double work for the same pay--their justification is 'be glad you have a job.'

My sister works at a recruitment agency and she works a little longer each day. She even brings home her work. I've told her that its one or the other why she brings it home: too much work to do or too slow while at work.
I believe there is too much that she has to do and alot of the names on her rosters are bloody foreigners.

there were some companies acting that way even long before the recession. The place sucks, but yet management acts like it's the best place in the world

Concerning "be glad you have a job" - I can add the "runon" on that line but first, it seems like you either are unemployed or if you are employed, be prepared to put up with the B.S. such as a lot of casual overtime such as working on weekends, petty rules like ridiculous dress codes. In other words, it is either no work or overwork, no happy medium.
On the line of "be glad you have a job" could mean, "be glad you have a job, you beter like the B.S. that we will dish out and you better eat it".

The turnover at my job was high too like two years ago when I first hired in. They said the turnover was around 200%. Meaning they had to hire 3 people to fill one job. Now, the turnover rate is below 10%. Lots of entitled jerks come in. "I used to make 50k year and now I had to take this because I couldn't find anything" "I am only working here until I find better paying job" etc etc. Most stick around for a while though.
It is an 8-9/hr job too.

My company is losing money, and as much as I hate to work more hours for the same money, I get a LOT less money if we go out of business...
Someone once told me the only real job security is being better at what you do than the guy next to you...I think that is the only way to make sure you have a job, or are re-hired quickly if your company goes under.

rant continued:
Need manager to help me deal with demanding clients.
Manager out sick - AGAIN - her weekly sick day.
Manager sends email to all saying 1) her cell phone is broken, 2) if we need us we can call her landline, but (3) she is going to sleep and will try to call us back if we leave a message because she is turning her phone off.
Hey, thanks for the help !
The other day she sent my overworked, totally stressed department an email saying she was going to the park with her daughter for playtime and we should contact another manager (who bounces us back to the first one).
Why didn't I become an entrepreneur.
