Has anyone ever worked for NSA? I was poking around the website and cryptanalysis looks really interesting. I'm just wondering if they payscale is competitive. I know that no one ever reveals anything about working there. I was just curious about the pay rate and how tough it is to get hired on there.

Even the payscale is classified information. A public forum is not the place to discuss the NSA.
Well, I somewhat knew of a guy through my aunt, - he was the son of this Christian Volunteer group and he was studying criminal justice. I thought, yeah - some career he'll have!... But then he hit the jackpot with a Gov Job in the Anti Terroist group and he makes big time bucks, he even helped buy a condo for his parents.
My uncle did, he has been retired for years. He has a masters in Russian and can speak it fluently with all sorts of accents. He never told us what he did obviously but he had ID that said he worked for them. I can only guess what he did, but I thought it was ind of cool. I also dont think discussing this is some kind of national security breach as there is alot of info out there about them.

Hey, I'm just curious about the payrate. I've heard that it's really crappy. Also, they recruit through the local high schools and just imagining the hoops that you must have to jump through....and I wouldn't think that you'd ever be able to really leave....just wondering if it's worth it for a youngster to get started through them. Or the CIA or any of the other "agencies" for that matter.
Im starting to wonder if it's is something else. I have never heard of the NSA going to high schools, seems you need a whole lot of college to even get considered.

Jeesh. Yeah, they go to high schools and they even publish salary ranges on their website--yeah, I'm talking about the National Security Agency. Thanks anyway--I found all of the info (even recruiting schedule/high school search, etc) on their website.
My husband interviewed for them 30 years ago. The pay was fairly average for government employees, a lot depended on your skills and exactly what you were hired for. He was also recruited by the navy for their nuke program. He declined both offers for a number of reasons and actually worked in a different field than his degree was in for a number of years. He said that while the NSA position seemed "interesting" that it would get old and fairly tedious after some time. I'm not even sure what he was being recruited for, he never volunteered the informationa nd I've always had the thought that he wouldn't ahve been able to tell me even if I asked.
I am pretty sure all government jobs are on the same pay scale, aren't they?
