I had a job lined up when I moved to my current town (this was 1992). Got here and it didn't happen. Looked for another gig, there was nothing. I ended up taking a part time job as a desk clerk at a hotel then another PT job working at a supermarket. It wasn't what I wanted to do but it paid the bills. I made some tips at the hotel and at the market I ate for free (joys of working in the deli). Eventually the supermarket job got old so I ended up working for a software store (Babbages) in the mall. Was there a year or so. One night, a Sunday, I guy came running up as I was locking up. Crap. He needed some software ASAP. I let him in, sold him the stuff. The next day he comes back and thanks me for opening back up for him. Then he hands me a business card and says "Stop by some day". I did and they offered me a job.
You never know what will happen when you make a "detour".
Not quite desperate yet. Luckily I saved up for a 6-month rainy day, that was back in September, if I don't find anything by the end of January, I will have to settle for a part time 30 hour a week job. I might have to give up the monthly payments on the car, but at least I will still be able to pay my bills.
I think we beyond desperate at this point. DH got laid off in september, no UI, no saving left. He has been applying for anything and everything that he can do, or is even close to his field. He has also applied for jobs from Utah to Maine, from Florida to Minnesota and North Dakota and almost everywhere in between.
Electric bill is due next week, not sure where that's coming from!! But a positive attitude and prayer and a lot of hard work, I believe, will get us through this.
