!
I can totally understand that but I have yet to be able to get beyond either the AA (if I try to followup in person) or if I call I typically get the "i can assure you your resume is in our system" type response. I get the feeling that they won't do anything more.

Would it be more productive to mail a letter (vs email)?

I don't know why we have to apply for jobs online if employers overlook these applications.
The problem I am running into is that these people do not want to see you in person. I've been looking for two months and i have not once been able to hand in my resume. Every single time I was asked to please submit my application and resume online and I usually get it with a little attitude as in "per the instructions in the ad"!

Perhaps it is the field? I am looking for any kind of administrative job, preferrable in the HR field.

I once interviewed for a position, which I ultimately did not get - but I didn't get a call to tell me I didn't get it. I never got a call-back so I assumed I was done. Three years later, I get a email from one of the managers that I originally interviewed with and he told me he was really impressed with me when we first met and he had another opportunity and asked if I was interested. I went in for a interview and they wound up offering me the job. This was my first job where I broke the 6-figure mark. So personally, if I am interested and in the market - it wouldn't matter to me how long it takes for me to get a call back.

i said that because i expect to be working 6 months from now and to get a call from an employer when a already have a job would annoy the hell out of me. It would be like they know I'm working and that's why they are calling. So of course I wouldn't be hanging up on any employer if I was still unemployed, that would mean I would be qualified for a mental institution.
