She wasn't fired. She was laid off because of the financials of the company. Though she saved his life, she may have been the "low man" of the totem pole. Seven years is nothing to shake a stick at, but if there are people who have been there even longer that had more seniority...
The article fails to mention how many were laid off. That would be nice to know. If they were the only two laid off, there'd be some call of foul play. If 100 of the "newest" people were laid off, that would be a different story.

Yowzer...it's not just the wife, BOTH husband and wife worked at the same place and were laid off the same day AND they were living in company housing so they have to find a new place to live ASAP. That's really too bad, I hope they have some money banked.

It was for economic reasons, and they weren't fired.

americans believe that the government and corporations will treat them fairly if they are good employees. unions are utterly unnecessary, the laws of the united states of america will protect them. kick in the head, just when did that lie ever become reality?
we need a labor movement. shove that lazy attitude kidult off the couch and hit the ground running.

i can empathize about the concept of being treated fairly in your employment only from the american perspective as i have never been to australia. if you are from austrailia please do expand on how it works there.

Don't miss the point here--"economics" doesn't justify wrong action nor does the fact that it happened in Australia. It is impossible for everyone to exploit other workers and be an owner/manager; that means some people are gonna be workers. The only question is, how are the others going to treat them and be allowed to treat them?

Nobody should think that their company is their relative . When times get bad you are gone if need be. They are not your parents and you are foolish to think they are.
