1. No I don't hate my job
2. Somewhat, I feel stuck.
3. The pros of the job (lots of nice people, appreciation, longstanding contacts, decent authority and money but not what I truly have "earned" for my work and experience) outweigh the occasional frustration of not being able to "move up and on".
4. It took me 26 years and scores of jobs to find the area I truly like. Compared to that, moving on for little reason seems like a big step backward.
5. Sometimes the stuckness seems more a combined result of my age, sex and own choices (in that order) than anything else.

I wouldn't hate my job if it wasn't for the people. I actually like to work.

I am not sure if I hate my job, but I certainly don't like it most of the time

I needed to find that balance between what I really want to do, my career's future, and money. So this is where I am. Someday I will find that perfect little niche, that pays well, has flex time, decent medical and fun projects.

I am still deciding if I should hunker down and wait this economy out. I dont want to switch and end up someplace worse.

My wife does. Physical Therapist stuck in a small business situation where her boss is more worried about how many patients they can cram in than if the patients are comforatable and feel well tended to. She sees about 26 patients on a normal day. Two therapists share an assitant and they have a secratary. They tend to "Bend" laws to suit them too. Apparently in Missouri you are only supposed to see one medicare paitent at a time, but there have been times where she says they have seen 3, and they just fudge it in the books so when they are audited it looks like they are only seeing 1 at a time.

She is afraid to be a whistle blower and her contract ends soon. (hence us moving, and to another state)

I don't really hate my job, yet at the same time, I'm not exactly in love with it, either. In this current economy, I'm thankful to be drawing a paycheck. At my company, no one will get any salary increases this year until business improves. I do like the people I work with; however, I feel the management in my department is too controlling and has a strong tendency to "micromanage", meaning just about everything I and my co-workers do needs to be screened by management. Almost makes me feel like I'm back in kindergarten again. I definitely don't plan to be at this company the rest of my life, but for now, I just tolerate it as best I can. I keep trying to think positive thoughts that this, too, shall pass.

So many people hate their jobs and I wonder why they stay there... are we all so buried in debt that we're enslaved to the income that these despised jobs provide?

I'm at that point and have been at the point for a long time. It is literally making me physically sick. I sit here with a migraine because I can't find a job that won't require a huge paycut. I work in the insurance industry and I hate it. To transition to something else would have to be entry level because insurance is all I know. I do have my masters degree and I am good with microsoft excel, various programs and such. But we all know hands on experience is what really matters. I don't know what to do. I just need to get on to something else even if that something else is not what I choose to do for the rest of my life. I currently make about $60k per year plus magnificent bonuses. I am willing to take a paycut but really can't find anything more than $30k. $40k is my minimum and then I would just supplement with a part-time job. But even $40k jobs want years of experience. I would love to get into HR work but the entry level jobs seem to pay pennies. Any ideas!

I like my job a lot and am very grateful for it. I get to work at home with fairly flexible hours (although I do have a set schedule), I can make my regular salary or a lot more, I have a great relationship with my boss, and the benefits are truly great.

I have had jobs that I hated before, though, which makes me all the more grateful for this one.

Well, if you would love to get into human resource managment!! Then do it! Now, is the time. You might want to take advantage of any tuition reimubursement your company offers and take a Masters in HR! There are many interesting programs offered. From my research it is a very well paid field!

good luck!

I've had jobs I hated. The two years I worked as a tech writer, I'd leave and think, "I have to get up in 12 hours and do it again." I quit that to return to RN work, nights at an AIDS hospice.
I'm tired of working, period. I work third shift to be able to dress like a hobo, have chunks of time where I'm being paid to be awake and ready to handle anything that might come up (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). Minimal supervision. Most people are just glad you show up at 11:15pm. I don't consider myself to have a career- I feel like a professional technician.
Nights are killing me but it's the only way I can tolerate this environment. (Former LPN, I hear ya!) I've come and gone from this one psychiatric hospital four times since 1981, have left for other RN jobs (all of them worse in their own ways), a master's degree, Peace Corps, tech writing. I've done copyediting online, which was great, but it ended after seven years, and anyway, was freelance.
I have made peace with my situation because I'm 56 and have a good pension here. I couldn't make that decision earlier on- it seemed too compromised.
Jobs I've loathed- tech writing, night surgical RN at a crappy hospital, waitress jobs, and working at the onion ring factory (honest).

There are lists upon lists of call centers you can work for... If you are referring to more then low 20k, you could always get two call center jobs. Where is the nuts smiley when I need it.
