Post News, Suit: Deputy fired due to panic disorder.

WOODSTOCK, Ill., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A former deputy with Illinois' McHenry County Sheriff's Office claims in a lawsuit that he was illegally fired because of a panic disorder.

Former deputy Robert Schlenkert claims in his discrimination suit, which is seeking a minimum $50,000 in damages, that he was dismissed after he complained to state authorities about his treatment by supervisors after his panic disorder came to light, the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported Thursday.

According to the article he failed the physical fitness text FOUR times. I think they gave him more than enough chances.

Even if he didn't fail the physical fitness test four times, I do not think someone with a panic disorder should be in a job where s/he CARRIES A GUN and is expected to make life and death decisions in the fraction of a second, which is something that can happen on the job for patrol law enforcement officers. However, the article does not say if he was working on patrol or in the office, though, so it's hard to say what his job situation was. If he was a deputy that was in the office all day under controlled situations, the panic disorder should not cause problems equivalent to a deputy out on the streets everyday with a gun.
