If they thought highly enough of you to select you out of all the other applicants, I think they would wait for you to call them back. I don't think they would instantly move on to the next person. After a couple of days, probably.
People have machines and voice mail. Having the machine pick up a message is normal...
If you don't get back to them by the end of the day, maybe they'd move on. Who knows?
Yeah I was asking because this is all new to me because the one job I was offered 10 years ago was on the spot. So I'm not familiar with receiving a call about a job offer.
hmm well based on your previous posts I thought that you had at least 2 jobs in the past 5 years... But anyway,,,, dont' walk, run if someone calls you about a job. First, listen carefully to the message, and do whatever they say to do in the voicemail. Second, call them and tell them you will call them back at 9am. If you are really desperate, show up at their office at 9am.

This is reality. You sit home all day and the phone doesn't ring...you go walk the dog for 10 minutes and there will be a call. You try to call the person back and he or she is 1) out to lunch, 2) on the other line 3) gone for the day 4) you get his or her voice mail and play phone tag for a few hours/days.
Sorry, TV Guy, I have been through it all in the 1.5 years I have been looking for a job (since re-entering the job force)..the dizzying highs, the terrifying lows...welcome to job hunting 2009.
Count yourself lucky you clocked 10 years in at a job...most people don't. Market your consistency!

Yeah that's funny, one low I just experienced was failing a phone interview this past tuesday so now I'm waiting for a HIGH-lol
Another thing, for you and everyone 'new to this' is don't be falsely hopeful if they show you around the building, to the breakroom, the cafeteria or whatever.
I figured (at another interview) they must want ME because they took the time to show me all over the building (breakroom, kitchen for coffee, the various offices). Not true...the walkthrough is just another part of the interview.

I had that experience in 2005 and was sure that I had the job when she showed me where the Refrigerator was-lol Actualluy I think I did have the job but it was my stupid statement that KILLED my chances. I was so convinced I had the job that I didn't think before speaking and said this before the job was even OFFERED TO me.
"Well I defintely let you know my decision"
I guess I thought she gave me a NON-VERBAL offer
