I recently received an email from an employer who I would like to work with. I have been in contact with the owner previously. I had been in the process of acquiring upgraded qualifications for my field. When I received the new certs, I contacted him again. He responded via email that he would like to bring me aboard pending some new contracts. I sent a short thank-you email, and stated I looked forward to hearing from him again soon.

My question is, after 1 - 2 weeks, should I contact him again, sort of a reminder, or should I let it ride? As an owner, I know he is busy. It is a smallish consulting firm. But I also do not want to seem like one of my kids: "Are we there yet, are we there yet?"

What do I do?

Well, i don't know the answer,,, but what I have read it would have been better if you had said, "here are my certifications, and if you are still wanting to bring me onboard, I will follow-up in two weeks".

but since you didn't, I would suggest sending a 2nd thank you note, letting him know of your continued interest and that you will follow-up in 10 days. and send the note tomorrow.(please, By the U.S. Post Office, not by email; you already did that.)

(kind of like a mini coverletter, like what companies send when they want to follow-up with a customer who has not responded to their 20 color page brochure!)

good luck!!

p.s. and remind him of your certifications or anything else noteworthy...i.e. knowledge of the kind of contracts he/she is seeking for expanding the company....and of course your excitement in their company!

Yes, if you didnt' already let him know of all your certifications, and the dates, now would be a good time, state, Dear Sir, now that I have formally received a hard copy of all of my ** certifications** I await your reply as to when we will be able to start our venture/job together. Just to remind you I now have, then detail them out and the dates received.
I appreciate you considering me for this venture and knowing that you are very busy I hope you don't mind that if I do not hear back from you by, (set a date) I will contact you, unless otherwise instructed.
