True, True!! but wouldn't you like your mom and dad to have been there to pick you up from school or whatever situation applies in your youthful past...

or in your not too distant future of potential parenthood?? ;-)

So you are saying people must suffer because had it been enacted when they were children they could have been picked up from school?

pssst... I have no children so parent friendly workplace rules would not afffect me more than any other single person on here, but as a citizen, I do try to support rules that help everyone other than just myself.

Also, it is intersting, because i have worked with people who felt that parents were given time off and considerations that non-parent employee were not, so an interesting subject to me.

Also, we are all concerned about our society and not just ourselves, and the different ills that affect our society and contribute to our high crime, high drop out levels, high murder, high incarceration, high drug, low national education scores compared to other countries, etc.... so "our" children's success is an important subject, to me, even if i am single.

good luck!!

I'm sick of the definition of family including kids.
Who says a family isn't just a couple and their two dogs?

As long as the single workers or workers without kids don't have to pick up the slack, I'm good.

If you want a truly family friendly workplace, work at home or start your own business where you'll have all the mommies and daddies working for you so they can take off every other day because their little pumpkin has a runny nose or kept them up all night crying.
Your employer doesn't OWE you a family-friendly environment. No one MADE you have kids.

I agree with this. Having children is a choice. Those who choose not to have children should not have to pick up the slack for those who do. And people wonder why it's hard for women with kids to get jobs? Maybe they need to think that it's because employers don't want to have to deal with them calling out because the kids are sick, coming in late because the sitter didn't show, leaving early for teacher conferences, and all the other assorted trappings of parenthood.
