I have noticed that some posters somehow "know' about their competition when they are interviewing for a job...

Do you ask the hiring manager? the employer? or are you talking with a recruiter who fills you in on this information.

Personally, I have never known who i am competiting against, until afer i get the job and i see the resume file and that is only if i work for a small company where information like this is easily stumbled upon.

thanks!

Sinsativ, maybe you can answer this question. In one of your posts about your new job, you said that one of your competitors had a masters, the other 2 had less experience, etc...so, how did you know this. Or did the women/man who was hiring you, tell you this after they offered you the job??

thanks!

some, as you know, Im a bit of an investigator, I look around, and you see the resumes out there, on Craigslist, others, if you have been to as many interviews as I have, you get to knowing the regular faces, and I talk with the interviewers before and after. I've also talked to several recruiters in the area, they give me people's initials, or something like that, and the rest is a little bit of legwork, but, its worth it knowing what Im up against. The more you know, always helps, never hurts. Get to an interview early, stay awhile late, and talk.
