References
If you have applied to a government position before, were you required to submit references? If so, when in the process did you have to submit them? Also, what was the job you applied to?

Yes, I applied for Fed. govt. job. That is a good question about references. I can't remember, but I did give them permission to do a background check. I applied for legal secretary position with the justice system.

They don't necessarily require references, but they will gladly take em. It depends on the agency and who the interviewer is. The Govt does such a thorough background check on applicants, they almost don't need to bother with references.

This is what I was wondering. I would think that the background check would be thorough enough. I also did not see a requirement for references to apply, and I would think that if references were required I would have to submit them right away?

The rule of thumb is that you present your references during your interview!
But i went on my interview and did not submit my refernces, because i had already sent them.
Why?
Because with the goverment they ask so many questions and personal information, that would not be allowed by a regular private employer.
They say this is to ensure accuracy and fairness!!
So, since you have no choice and you have to rely on their honesty, you might as well upload it along with your resume!!
If they break the law and discriminate against you, what can you do?
good luck!!
