Default What would you do in my situation

I work for a company in a large city where I grew up. I love it here with my friends and family. I am single, 26, so no other attachments.

I believe our sales office is going to close and they will want us all to work out of the main plant (manufacturing) with the rest of the company soon.

This plant is 2 hours away, in a different state, sort of in the middle of nowhere, but an hour from 2 major cities.

I do like my job, and couldnt see myself leaving if I could stay in this city. I cant imagine living in this small town, especially as a single guy.

If you were in my shoes, would you pack up and go with the job you really like, and a company that treats you good, or stay in the city you know and love, but look for another job,... especially now in a recession.

I would begin looking for another job, but be prepared to move if it means staying employed until you can find one.

Not all small towns suck, give it a chance, you might be surprised. And you can always drive back to where you are now to party a few times a month and crash with a friend or family--two hours really isn't all that far.

If it were me, I would go with the company, and while there look for another job.

Find out if there would be any kind of severance for people that don't make the move.

I think you've found gold there, finding a company that treats you right, and you need to go where the work is, its that simple. Small towns generally aren't that great, and i really don't like suburbs (live in both..) but what do you do.

What are the job prospects in your current location?

Personally, I'm attached to places. Once I am familiar, I don't like to move... unless it's just that time!

Personally, I would make it an either/or scenario.

If they want to pay you more money to move, pay your moving expenses, etc... then move for a year or two.

or stay and try to negotiate a package so you are not left broke and hungry!!

cheers!

No, I understand, but my point about weighing your offers, is based on the assumption, that this is a career type job, not a run of the mill city job.

good luck on your decision!!
