Here are the unemployment numbers for the month of April in the US:

Some shocking numbers, especially in California and the Sun Belt.

What the hell happened to NC? I thought that's where all the jobs were, and Cleveland has better numbers!

Not bad.

So 94.7% of the people in New Orleans have jobs?

That figure is misleading because it does not count business owners who have being losing money, consultants out of work, people forced to work temp or part time while they want to be full time and countless people who have lost hope and have dropped out of the job market. The real unemployment rate is about 25%

Now business owners losing money should be included in unemployment numbers?

Business owners losing money is capitalism's way of saying they are doing something wrong. It's brutal, it's cold but it's right.

Actually because they lost a significant amount of their population after Katrina--people who left and never came back--the unemployment numbers are relatively low in NOLA.

Weekend Traveler is dead wrong about their information.

I got my information directly from someone who works in the recruiting sector in NOLA. There are a lot of opportunities there. There is a lot of ARRA money flooding into NOLA and jobs are available for skilled and unskilled labor.

Unemployment means not having a job. It does NOT mean 'not having your perfect job'.

25%? Bullsh*t.

Everyone at my company got a pay cut this year. Should I call myself unemployed as well? Or does your logic just not make any sense?
