Default "Old" people who say "I'm just hanging in for 2 more years"

So I guess at 62 people can retire. During the last couple days I've heard 2 guys make a comment like "yea I'm just hanging in there a few more years" lol. Working class guys I work with. I can say I sure don't want to be counting down my years to retirement once I hit 45 or 55. I just think it's a sad attitude and if you're gonna work be happy or do something else, don't count down your days until you're officially an old person essentially waiting for your life to end.

That's all.

You may change your mind when you hit 55, just a thought.

I have heard that, however, it is generally by people that have weathered the storms within an industry and are fed up with someone's "brilliant" plan.

We're all getting older it's just a fact of life.

And to the ten or early twenty something younguns who sneer at the old ones I'll deliver a fact of life. You will be older in a blink of an eye. At 25 65 seems a lifetime away because it is but that lifetime is a blink of an eye.

In 30 short years you will suddenly wonder "where did my life go?" I am not trying to make you depressed but it is a fact.

I was OK until I hit 55 and that's when the little pains started in. I used to ride a bike 20 to 30 miles a weekend but now it would hurt to go 20 miles so I go 5 and am happy. I used to be able to run but that's all down to short jogs anymore because regardless how hard you work to keep yourself in shape your body does wear a bit. Pain in the joints and the strength you had isn't what it was especially if you're a male. Lowered testosterone and all that. The plus on lowered male testosterone is for the first time in your life you will start thinking clearly. This is a fact.

I don't ever want to retire but I am looking forward to reduced hours to maybe 16 to 24. Work tuesday, wednesday and thursday with every weekend a long weekend.

nicet4, your post reminded me of this song:

I JUST DON'T LOOK GOOD NAKED ANYMORE
(Sheb Wooley / Dick Feller)

I stepped outta the shower and I gotta good look at myself
Pot belly, bald head, man, I thought I was somebody else
I caught my reflection in the mirror on the back of my bathroom door
I just don't look good naked anymore

So, I'm goin' upstairs and turn the bedroom mirror to the wall
I hung it there when I was trim and tall
I'd stand there and smile, and strut and flex until my arms got sore
But I just don't look good naked anymore

Well, I used to go out with the girls
I loved them one and all
Now they don't get very close to me
They're afraid that I might fall

Well, I went to the Doctor for my annual medical exam
Stood there in the buff, suddenly he said "MAN"
I said "What is it Doc, some fatal disease, I just gotta know the
score"
He said "No, you just don't look good naked anymore

Well, me and my wife had a dance routine
Everybody said it was unique
Now it's only when we're back to back
That we're dancing cheek to cheek

Well, I went to a nudie beech to have some seaside fun
Stretched out in my birthday suit, soakin' up the sun
Somebody yelled, "Hey, there's an old white whale washed up on the shore
I just don't look good naked anymore

Yeah, my arches fell, my chest went to hell
And my butt's a-draggin' the floor
An' I just don't look good naked anymore
No, I just don't look good naked anymore

What's most striking is how fast it all goes. It seems like yesterday I was 30, a young father without a spec of gray hair. At 60 I am a grandfather with white hair realizing as fast as the previous 30 years went the next 30 will go even faster and then I will be 90 years old.

I've also noticed I didn't truly appreciate life until I was over half way though.

Also mother nature doesn't care about you one bit. Live or die makes no difference as long as you reproduce.

Why does it matter if one couple doesn't reproduce?
