I've come across many job openings for various companies that were intitated several months, even over a year ago.

As far as I can tell, these jobs are still open. They are with various state agencies. They are not jobs I'm interested in nor qualified for, so I haven't applied. But I wonder, why would a job be open for one year or more? Surely they can't be taking that long to fill it!

Could it be some weird budget manuever? The dept is budgeted a certain amount, then they don't expense it because those positions aren't filled? But what advantage could there be in that, could they absorb the position's budgeted pay into the dept budget?

I've seen a lot of jobs, both govt and private, posted as still open when they've been open for more than a year Wonder what their reply is when people apply--just ignore them? I'd hate to see the work backload if they are indeed legitmate positions!

The company I used to work for ran ads in some markets constantly as we had high turnover in some positions (retail) and liked to keep a "full bench" of pre-screened applicants so we could bring someone in quickly when we had an opening.

But wouldn't they reset the post date each time?

It depends on the job board/software.

Ahhh........so maybe those jobs that have seemly been posted for 1year+ actually have been filled, not worked out, then attempting to fill again, just kept the original post date...........shows its a difficult position to fill and keep filled!
