Hello,

I am wondering if there are any Dental Assistants living and working in the San Diego area who can help me out with understanding average starting wages in this area? I am planning on relocating to this area and am having trouble finding out these figures. Thanks a lot

San Diego has its own section in the California forum and you might get a better response from there. Cheers!

Hello, I'm a dental assistant for the government here in San Diego and they offered me $33,361/year to start as a GS-5 Step 1 which also includes the locality pay of about $6,000. After taxes, medicare, disability, and retirement benefit deductions, take home pay is about $2,100 a month. Later I found out I should have negotiated with the recruiter based on my 12 years of military experience as a dental tech and qualifications I could have gotten more as a GS-5 Step 3! Hope this helps.
