A large home improvement chain store has a job opening listed on their website and you can apply right from the website. The same job is listed at the Career Center (in conjunction with the State of TN labor dept.). Would it be better to apply through the career center or directly on the website? Or do you think it wouldn't make a difference?

Probably doesn't matter, but I will always submit through the company website first. If nothing else, it shows that you bothered to click a few more links and possibly try to learn something about the company.

I've had the fortune of being able to speak casually with quite a few HR, hiring managers, recruiters (whatever they wanna call themselves) in the past.

It is my thought that submitting through the company's own website is the way to go. They usually get looked at first.

See, my thinking was that they probably get a ton of applications off the website and probably barely take more than a glance at them. But they might take a longer look at a referral from the Career Center.

I admit, I could be wrong though.
