My dad just got hired and he had two offers on the table... both included full relocation. The relocation company for the employer he chose even bought his old house (how amazing for him). My husband and I were moved for free last year through my husband's company (Public Health Service). So yeah, they're out there

hmm..I haven't moved to a new hospital WITHOUT expenses paid. I work in the operating room, a critical care specialty. If only you knew the varying 'quality' of nurses out there...you'd pay a million bucks for the good ones. Like every job, some people really just 'get it' and become very good in their specialty.
From a HR standpoint, I'm more the type who doesn't care where I need to move you from if I want you. What the heck would it matter a couple thousand over years, to get someone here who needs little training, won't leave as soon as they get that 'first year' in and really contributes to the department?
I most likely won't consider the place if they can't fork out 1500 or more for assistance.

Ditto here. DH works for a very large company and they still pay for relo expenses, but not at the pace they once did. They are trying to promote within and at a local level. Last year around this time, they stopped the house buyout for all employees, even the top executives.

+2. My co offers relocation, though I don't know much about it. A woman I know at work just started a few months ago and she was relocated from NJ. Given high unemployment, I'm surprised some co's are stilling offering. OTOH, if expertise is needed, a co will do what it has to.

You have to be hiring to offer relocation :P
Our company does do relocation, but the benefit levels are a lot different than they were doing the boom years, where pretty much anyone at a mid-level professional level and above would get some sort of relocation package. Now, if you are below the director or VP level around here, all you could probably expect is a check (maybe around a half-month to a month of salary less taxes) to offset some of your moving expenses.
