I've used Resume Maker software. It's been a while, but I think it was $20 at Office Depot.

If you are willing to put in the time and effort - you won't need to use a service or buy any software. If you would like to send me your resume, I will be happy to help you.

Do it yourself. It is so easy. A coworker of mine recently needed one; she hadn't done one in almost 20 years. I typed one up for her in less than 10 minutes. Keep it simple. Absolutely make sure there are no typos. Here are some links to check out:

I recently put one together for a new position I was taking and used MS Word and used the Draw Tables function on the tool bar. I spiffed it up a little and it looked pretty sharp. THe real question is are you conducting a new job campaign or applying to a company that you already have an in with. The only thing a good service or software package might help with is getting the "best" info on the resume for the potential jobs...

I'm a former college career counselor, and I would like to say that if you put junk into a resume and format it well, it's still junk. Make sure to quantify your your qualifications and achievements. Use a variety of active verbs. Tailor each resume to each job application so that you are a solution to the employer's problems. If the announcement says "seeking a person with five years of accounting experience," you should spell out that you have five years of experience in a separate qualification sections. I think a resume service would be great if they actually helped folks to express their strengths better. It doesn't seem like most do though.

I think the thing now is to make sure you have the correct "keywords" or buzzwords in there because the HR departments send the resumes through a "reader" software to sort out the unqualified ones. I don't know exactly what this is maybe someone else does?

I do have a resume already, my problem is I don't know how it looks to the HR managers I send it too! I am not sure if it is worded correctly or if it portrays me in the manner it should. I know there has got to be HR managers out there, that know exactly what catches the eyes of the employer. And u are right Gardner it is the wording that is the main focus! I am sure my wording isn't the greatest.

Putty -

As someone who needs 2 different resumes, 1 biz & 1 creative, there are 2 great books that helped me do my own, both by Yana Parker. "Resume Catalog: 200 Dam n Good Examples" (less than $2 on amazon) & "Blue Collar & Beyond" (now out of print, but available at libraries). She has many other resume books, too. Good luck putting it together & best of luck in your new to come job!

Evey -

Which program has the resume template in Office? I didn't know about that before. Thanks!
