Does Aluva have a mental problem? What is the point of this thread?

The point is the previledge one section of the work force feels and demands, as if it is an entitlement , and the class of people who feel happy with that!

The concept of wages for the service industry is not a new one. It is practised in other parts of the world!
May be the department of labour in those countries must have a issue, because this job that the waiters are doing is kind of same in different countries.

Alulva, if you are that unhappy with it:

eat at home or;
move to a country that doesn't practice tipping.

Not sure what got your panties in a wad, abut you are completely discrediting yourself with wild claims about food stamps. I know a lot of people in the service industry, and not a single one of them gets food stamps.

I worked as a waiter through high school and college. I never knew a single person who collected food stamps. Actually, the majority of my co-workers reported cash tips accurately. When a co-worker gets audited twice in two years for underreporting cash tips, it motivated the rest of us to be honest.

aluva, the USA is not the rest of the world, and we never want to be.

deal with it.

I don't mind tipping for good service, and I do withhold tips for bad service.

I would rather keep the tipping in place instead of all restaraunts having to charge much more for the same thing so they can now cover the expense of the waiters.

In the end, I am probably paying the same, or close to it most of the time, but at least part of what I pay is still in my control.

Does Aluva not understand if servers started getting paid $12 an hour rather than tips the costs would show up on the menu?

We had dinner for two last night and two drinks, check was $45 dollars and change, left $55 on the table.

Would rather put it in the server's pocket than pay more for the food because they're getting a hourly wage that is substantially higher.

BTW, the servers in England and Ireland love to see Americans who tip, I have never had anyone say "no thanks I get a decent wage".....LOL.

I really don't understand where they came up with 15%-20% suggested or required to tip a waiter to serve me something I can cook at home.

Myself, I'm very quick to tip an auto mechanic, an electrician, plumber, barber, computer geek to fix my computer, a public bus driver, and I've even tipped extremely efficient cashiers at the grocery store which saved me time.
