How does one get a job as a social worker in a hospital?
I know some job requirements require experience in a medical or hospital setting but of course it's hard to get those jobs without experience.
I am not opposed to being a social worker in a hospital. I just need some sort of tips on how to get my foot in the door.

I got my job in hospital social work by taking a part time job in the same dept and working my way up and into it. At the time I only held a bachelor's degree and we had an MSW who consulted with us in order to comply with JCAH requirements for hospitals. If I had tried to get the job of director of social services without "working" my way up and in, I doubt it would have ever happened. I know this particular route isn't always possible, but that's how I did it.

I thought MSW degrees included a mandatory internship. In my area, it's unpaid except for forensic internships. It seems like a throwback to the days where social workers were perceived as wives of well-off men who wanted to be a do-gooder. I saw my co-workers have to have reliable cars, and a professional wardrobe for their internships on top of working at the psych hospital, often two double shifts on weekends.
But I imagine you could get a medically-related internship? Geriatric social worker? There are all kinds. Best wishes.

There is a mandatory internship and I didn't even think of pursuing an internship in a medical facility. I will certainly have to keep that in mind.
Thank you.
