Lol not much opportunity out here in VA to be honest unless your friend has the "hook up"...my suggestions would be Houston TX, NYC, Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. The VA beach area is full of navy folks and the private market isn't booming like that. Richmond VA which is a hour and a half north may have more opportunity...oh yeah it may be helpful to let us folk what your degree is in...

Since your question is specific to Virginia Beach, you should post this question to that forum if you haven't already. I'm sure they'll have lots of opinions.

According to his blog, Business Management.

Since I know nothing about VA, I'll leave that for others to mull over. I moved from Detroit to Denver after I graduated from UMich. I had a job within a couple weeks out here, but that was in '08. Sales jobs will probably be easier to get, especially those based primarily on commission. Marketing jobs, on the other hand, may be harder to come by since ad sales have dropped significantly. My suggestion: check out jobs with temp agencies. I'm not talking about jobs with their clients, but actual jobs with the agency. Typically, the volume of temp and p/t jobs pick up after a recession. So temp agencies should have see an increase in business fairly soon, if not already.

Our friend, Charles, is fond of Huntsville, 'Bama. Perhaps you could check out that area. When I worked in the defense non-destructive testing industry back in Detroit, I know we always had plenty of business in Huntsville.

If you're male don't move to Virginia Beach or the surrounding area. It is mostly military. VA Beach is nice but extremely pricey. I lived there 2.5 years, near Hilltop.

Military town? Tons of guys and no women.

If you want a good chance at being successful in a horrible economy, check out Huntsville Alabama.
