Default Transportation question

When a job says "your own transportation required" can you say you have a bicycle?

Also, if I want to start my lawn mowing business, could it be ok if I just used the owner's lawn mower (would i get very many clients?)

Well . . . if it's something like a newspaper route or delivering packages, you'd have a really hard time just on a bike.

You should buy your own lawn mower. Most homeowners who secure a lawn service expect the business to have their own equipment. Not sure though. It may be different where you live. Also, if you have a "lawn service" versus "lawn mowing" you may have clients who have more need for landscaping, such as digging, pruning, clipping, mulching, and not so much of a lawn.

Is this a joke?

If the owner has a working lawn mower, there is a good chance they will cut the grass themselves.

I wouldn't unless you live VERY close by. My son worked at a place that required "own transportation" because they weren't on a bus line. It was OK, neither we we, but we lived 1/4 mile from the place (a very reasonable walk) so they hired him.

My guess is that most people who hire a lawn service don't have a mower--I know I don't.

We have always had a lawnmower. Even when for a season here and a season there, we hired a service, they never used our lawnmower and we wouldn't want them to. Generally a service will have commercial-grade equipment far superior to what the homeowner has. They can usually get the job done in less time as well. I wonder if a homeowner would be liable if they paid someone to use their lawnmower and there was an injury.

If you are serious about a lawn mowing Business, seriously consider getting your own lawnmower, and liability insurance. The problem is you can't strap it to a bicycle.

If they ask if you have reliable transportation and you feel that your bike is reliable transportation then you answer "yes". There is no need to elaborate. They will assume you have a vehicle and are not likely to accept lateness, absence, or poor appearance due to weather.

Um, if I hire someone to cut my grass I expect them to have a mower. I would never allow someone to use mine. Heck, even the 10 year old who asks if I need my grass cut has his own mower. I would also expect them to have a blower so they don't leave grass clippings all over the place. And a weed eater to get places where the mower can't reach.

Most jobs that say "Your own transportation required" are delivery type jobs or jobs where you work at more than one location around town, such as a janitor for a janitorial service. I am guessing most of these jobs require more than a bicycle.
