I am beginning my third season of working for Pearson online from home. I have never worked at a scoring center. You need to have at least a bachelor's degree and some teaching experience. You also need to have a PC. Their software is not compatible with Macs. You download the software and yes, you receive the testing materials through your computer. You must have a separate email address, and you have to score from your home or office ... not someplace like Starbucks or Panera or the library.

You set your own hours -- scoring is available pretty much from 6am to midnight (can vary depending on your time zone), and most jobs require 20 hours minimum. You are limited to 10 hours a day and 40 hours a week. But other than that, you pretty much choose when and how long you will score.

I have scored essay and reading tests from upper elementary through high school. I enjoy working for them.

Kplunk, thank you for posting the information. It's good to actually know someone who works with Pearson online. I received email notification on March 6 regarding my application but I haven't had any other contact. Do you remember how long it took to hear from them a second time? I'm wondering if they will need transcripts, etc. from me or if they will verify my education by other channels.

So, is it too late to get in on this? My dh and I are both thinking of applying, we both have other jobs, but looking at this as a way to pick up some extra cash.

Sounds interesting. Can you tell me the site I need to go to to find out more information about it? Thanks.

I have scored for Pearson at the Austin location. And yes to score the math you must be proficient in the math and have knowledge of the math curriculum for the group you are scoring (ex:Middle Grades). How else would you know if they met or exceeded the standard if YOU don't know how to work the problem or what the correct answer is? I have also scored the Early Childhood area..again you must be knowledgeable about the K-3 curriculum and what is expected of students in those areas. You won't be a very good scorer if you are shooting from the hip or clueless. These people depend on you to know your stuff so they get a fair shake..especially teachers who are depending on these scores to keep or get their jobs. Just FYI.
