Like to keep busy. Enjoy my "freedom". Spent three months in jail starting April 22, 1988. I was just 18. NO THANK YOU. I'd rather work a crappy job than be in jail any day. But the thought doesn't help me LIKE a crappy job any better. I thought about and researched working for myself several years back. NO THANK YOU. Unless I won the lottery, there is no way I would risk it. Too many legal issues for a simple smart guy such as myself. I'm looking forward to working again when "you know what" happens.
It's like going to jail for 40 years with pay. You're stuck there at least 40 hours a week unless you're your own boss.
Never been in jail, but, yeah, sometimes working feels like it. But at least we're being paid.
Ever notice the recidivism rate of ex-offenders? Some of them feel safer in jail, so they return to it. Maybe that's how some jobs are ... "Safe" (sort of).
I personally referred to my retirement as being released from jail after serving a 32+ year sentence. Yes, I understand this.
I can also tell you after being retired for several years, loss of all your fun money is another kind of jail sentence. It's no fun to have to count every penny not spent as a victory of sorts. That's why I went back to work. A whole different kind of work, a fun job that I enjoy. But it also doesn't pay much.
For most of us, jobs we like don't pay a living wage. And places we would love to live, don't have any jobs worth having. It's always a tradeoff.
I mean instead of working from 9 to 5 (that's like the entire day already). You got home eat and start the same over next day. The time could be spent on your love ones instead of sitting in cubicles. Even if you love your job I think it's much better to have this time to spend with the family. We're born to live not to work. I guess reality is born to work.
