I wonder if salaries in IT vary region to region. In the NJ/NYC area, no one with experience in IT would be willing to work for 65K... even in this economy.

I find people jobs in IT... and almost all are 100k+. Some Network/Cisco folks are around 80k. If you're in IT, I invite you to NYC. I can't find enough well qualified people here! I reject 90% of them for not keeping up with technology. Lot's of jobs available on wallstreet!

Personally, I'd give anything to be back in IT. I worked in IT in 2007/2008 but was laid off when the company downsized. I started off with the company in their call center doing Tech Support and eventually was promoted to IT User Support (Help Desk). However, I live in a tiny little beach community which isn't near any "city" so job options are very limited here and you simply take what you can get. I was out of work for over 2 years after being laid off, and am about to be unemployed again as I am not meeting my sales requirements at my current job.

You see, I am happy with an IT Help Desk position making $13 - $15 an hour. However, those positions are non-existant in my little beach community, which is being hit hard by the oil spill by the way.

Hopefully (and I say this with the best intentions given the horrific situation), you can pick up something in relation to cleaning up the oil spill. It may create some jobs.

There isn't enough gold in the world for me to put my health at risk to go clean up that oil. That stuff is toxic and my family and I are already having health effects just from breathing in the fumes in the air. I'm actually wanting to leave this place due to how toxic the air has become, plus there simply isn't any jobs in this area anymore and never really has been.

That is true, that is why I left N Florida in the first place...pretty weak tech job market in that area of the country unless you have .mil clearance.

Yep, and I cannot get military clearance for anything IT related as Top Secret requires credit checks and whatnot, and at the moment, I have horrific credit

If that were the case there would be huge amounts of vacancies, because there was a mass exodus a few years back. But, IT is still down and out.
