What kind of jobs are we talking about in these moving companies?

I felt like a temp job would be my best bet since I have such a huge unemployment gap in my resume after being in school for awhile without working, then dropping out of school.
I've been in Southern California for about 3 months now, and i've joined about 4 temp agencies. Unfortunately I haven't found anything yet, so it seems to be a problem everywhere...

As hard as it is to find a permanent job, the temp jobs seem to be even scarcer. Many would not mind out of town assignments for a few months, but they expect you to be there for a few years. I thought temp employment is the first to pick up.
