In the last couple months, I have been working with temporary jobs with the Federal Govt.
Just recently I was told that having the Standard Form, which essentially states that I have been employed by the Fed. Govt., allows me to have preference in future Fed. Govt. Jobs.
Honestly, I am not interested in opinions, rather I just want to learn of resources: job-boards, websites, agencies, etc.
All I know of is USAJobs.gov -- but I have found little opportunity in my area (Greenville, NC).
Most agencies post their listings on USAJOBS. Otherwise agencies will post them on their own sites (since the federal hiring process is all about equal opportunity etc they have to publicly announce everything with some exceptions...so you'll only find postings through USAJOBS or agency websites). Honestly, I don't think the federal government has a big presence in Greenville, NC...you might want to expand your search to eastern NC as a whole (if possible) as the military brings a pretty strong federal presence there.
FederalSoup.com is your resource for everything federal employment related.
Great advice...
OP, the federal hiring system is awful...I saw an article (I don't have thes source) that says it takes an average of 220 days to get hired. Also, vacancies are know to have hundreds to tens of thousands of applicants. Currently, you need to fill out KSAs, which are basically essays yet a memo was signed to IDEALLY banish KSA's in 6 months. The currently process is to get only the most qualified candidates. Also, it greatly depends on the agency, but the interview process can wildly vary...Some are nothing more then hand writing answers to questions you're given.
Buy a book that shows you both how to apply, how to write KSAs and a have an employment backup plan.
Thanks everyone for the help, I really appreciate it.
@YaFace: Thanks for the site -- bookmarked it and I will certainly be using this from here on out!
@flyers29: you're absolutely correct, as I have found little opportunity with fed. jobs in Greenville. However, Eastern NC seems to be a better 'search term'.
@TheJagMan: Thanks for your honesty.
