I think Juan may have a second life at this restaurant. If Hollywood has taught me anything, it has taught me that Juan is going to meet some smart, sassy lass who is going to take pity on him. Now Juan is going to think that this means he's going to get lucky, but she will baffle him by being friendly in a non sexual way. She will carefully groom him and teach him how to be successful (with the ladies and with life in general.) Then, he'll get a makeover and somehow get a second shot at that busboy job, where he will be a big hit -- making all the girls swoon.

Yep, I'm just about positive this is how all of this is going to go down.

(FYI: I agree with the other posters. What's Manny got to do with any of this? This movie is pushing 90 minutes already without him .. we don't have nearly enough time to go into the family dynamics too. Don't introduce a superfluous character into your crappy romantic comedy .. it will just make it even crappier.)

Maybe the OP is trying to say that Manny should be in porn and start a business. This is why this is in the work and employment section.....or something like that.

I started this thread in the Relationships forum. A mod moved the thread here, and it was not at my request!

I wouldn't hire a female to save my life..
The waitstaff, both male and female, wear identical uniforms of a tux shirt, bow tie, black vest, pants and shoes. And no, the women don't dress sexy, they don't wear their black pants extra tight. The women are pretty, but not hot looking. They are your basic young college student in appearance. And if they were friendly to him, it was ONLY in a professional way and to help out a new employee. At the end, everyone was avoiding him and only talking to him when necessary just to avoid having him get too friendly. In addition, there is a list of names, phone numbers and email addresses on our bulletin board of all the staff. And that is done in case we need to switch shifts. No one has ever abused the information on that list before.

And no, none of the women ever flirted or came on to him. He was the one that approached them. And he was way out of his league in the sense that these part time staff are all college girls, and he is 25 years old with a high school education and some sort of medical assistant trade school certification, and he is a very poor worker. This situation is completely different from another poster saying that everyone in his IT department date each other. In that case, all the workers are of equal education and smarts. Juan is a dumb*ss with ghetto manners and walk.

And as to mentioning Manny, he and his buddies have no problems with cheating on their girlfriends. It's just part of their macho ghetto culture. Which is yet another reason none of the women at work wanted to get friendly with Juan. The rest of the employees at work believe in monogamous relationships. If Manny ever became single, there is not one woman at work that would date Manny either. So to have Juan, who isn't that good looking and not very smart, hitting on every new (college) girl he met there and trying to be some ladies man... well that was just plain annoying to deal with. And of the other guys we work with, they are friendly, but only in a brotherly fashion. They don't treat the workplaces like a singles bar.

Lastly, Juan was an idiot to be only three weeks into the job and then get drunk at the work party to the point of needing a taxi to get home AND to be hungover with the dry heaves at work the next day. Had he not been so hungover at work, possibly he would have only been pulled aside by the nice manager to told to stop asking his female co-workers out on dates. But instead, the management only saw him as a liability and they gave him the boot.

Oh, I get it now. This is about trashing someone's ethnicity and culture?

How do you know so much about Manny, who you have labeled as the epitomy of professionalism on the job? I'm assuming he does not date or hit on the women at your job. So why do you care about him so much? It looks like he's smart enough to not crap where he eats and that's all that matters. Maybe he and his girlfriend have an understanding like they are in an open relationship or their relationship isn't so serious?

Really, you care WAY too much about this bit players.

I thought it was funny and I can relate to some of these "horror stories" I''ve encountered working in food service. You get all types of characters many of whom leave the job or are fired after a few months. Though entertaining in some areas I sense you have a deep resentment towards Juan and I'm not sure why. It seems to me you could have been a bit kinder to Juan perhaps and coached him properly without ridiculing him. Life is too short.

I actually tried to "coach" him the first week. He was fascinated by my "vocab" and demanded that I teach him one new (long) word each shift. Then daily he tried to stump me with brain teasers and share a new famous quote. But even with all of that, he just didn't have the aptitude to make it stick. Add to that his hitting on all the women at work, once we all shared our individual experiences of him with each other, we suddenly were all of one mind that he had to go. Juan was not our burden to deal with. He's not family, and Manny was keeping his distance also. We all feel that it wasn't Manny's idea to bring him in, but Juan's or someone else in his family. And no way did we want him to be a permanent fixture at our place of work. We already have to deal with two crappy managers.

I suppose another aspect to this work situation is whether or not anyone here had ever had to work with another family member at their job, and how did that work out for them?

Several of my coworkers are related to other coworkers either by blood or by marriage.

At least four sets that I can think of. Last summer it was seven sets, including one with four members of teh same family, but some people have left since then.

It's never been a problem.
