Russia has low life expectancy (only in the 50s), due to high alcoholism and drug use. Like much of Europe, a declining population/ low birth rate (high abortion rate). Environmental problems (the Aral Sea has dried up due to mis-use, as reported in Nat. Geogr. magazine. Also the Chernobyl disaster). Economy of cities is dominated by Mafia-type gangs. Brain-damaged babies born to mothers with substance abuse, raised in drab orphanages with little personal attention or bonding. I have heard these things numerous times from multiple sources.

1) The average life expectancy in Russia is 65,5 years (61,83 for men and 72.6 for women).

LOL, Aral Sea and Chernobyl are not even in Russia.
I heard USA was bad, lots of crime in and around Mexico city!!
One thing I remembered is Russians tend to be fairly fiercely defensive about their country, hence I did that joke about "I only think bad because of the media." Actually the media has a role, but I've heard fairly negative things about Russia from those who have visited their and its vital statistics. Still it's something of an uneven nation so parts of it are quite lovely I think. Its robbery rate is also apparently below that of the UK and Belgium.
Of the other former Soviets the Baltic nations look to be the most developed. None of the former Soviets seem to do well on the "Happiness Index" but Estonia and Kazakhstan do comparatively well on that and "Happy Life Years."
There are some cities and places in Central Asia's former Soviets that might be of interest to me due to their connections with the ancient "Silk Road."
