In the US... men used to make a LOT more than women doing the same job.
The women thought that was unfair so they did something about it.
Now everyone doing the same job earns the same lower pay that women used to get.
Some actually think this is good for anyone or "progress".
hth
Actually, in some cases, the women are making more than the men now.
I know of one such couple in this situation, and the wife left the husband because she no longer wanted to be married to a man who made less than her. She told him; "You're holding me back. I want out." That was after 6 years of marriage. Nice, real nice.
I don't need a man for more than the enjoyment of his company; I make my own money and own two houses.
give me five sister, I totally agree with you.
My brother married when he have no house, cannot even afford a dimond ring for my sister in law, they wear gold band ring. They buy a house TOGETHER, it take them 10 years. Now almost married for 20 years and they still happy.
It seem like your childhood and grown ups influence your choices too. I guess those who used to live a rich style, they cannot adapt to poor living style. My family we are just workers, but we still have our family together every night eating dinner.
If I have to choose, a man with no house but treats me good. Or a man with house but behind my back cheat on me. I choose the man without a house in a heart beat.
House, money, materalistic stuff comes and goes, money lost, money can be made again. It is the love and understanding and compromise are priceless.
If a girl doesn't like me because I live in a van by the river, that is her loss.
Now that's what I'm saying. Having a job and being responsible is a requirement or some form of income but owning is overrated. I owned a 5 bedroom in one of the nicest sections of the city I live in. It seemed it was always a contest to keep us with the Jones'.
The upkeep and time put into the home was never ending. My children were to young then and my boyfriend was constantly working just to maintain the bills. Don't get me wrong we owned and operated 4 businesses that were very lucrative and then the recession of the 80's happened and we lost a lot of business.
I now live in an apartment with my now husband and young son and am happy as could be. I can pick up the phone and call maintenance to fix whatever needs fixing and they promptly respond to my requests. They paint when needed, they are giving me new bathrooms (we have 2), new kitchen cabinets, refrigerators, stove, oven and dishwasher to more economical ones. I love it, it also has a beautiful pool on the grounds, basketball courts, and a lovely playground for the young ones. I love living here and I don't plan on moving any time soon.

If a man owns a house and his spouse comes to live there she usually says 'our house' when she mention their home in a conversation. If a woman owns a house she usually says 'my house'. Therefore many of women still live mentally in the past when they hadn't equal rights with men. In that case you described the situation was the same. His wife subconsciously feels his husband like a leader or may be even a master and if she has more power and money then her master she can't respect him. She needs someone who will be more powerful then she is. :-)
