Italy. Luckily, I'm also fluent in Spanish and Italian and Spanish are very similar. I actually met a Latin American guy while I was there and in the one year living there, he had become fluent in Italian. I know I could learn it, I'm just very shy and I'm scared of the first few months when I'm not going to know anything. I'm not as brave as other people.
Ah, you'll be fine.
Especially as a Spanish/English speaker in Italy.
Once you go, you'll realize how fun and interesting it is with the learning process. You'll find yourself looking up how to say things, and then once it's there, it's there.
We are hoping to move in 2012 to france. We ar a family of four ; two adults with a small bit of french between us and two children who have absolutely none.
But I cant wait to do it. I would do it sooner if I can get my act together.
I think Korea is the country in which I found the smallest number of people who could speak any language that I knew. I know enough Spanish, French and German to get around wherever people know any of those languages, and most of Asia, a lot of people know some English, but not Korea. I was also surprised to see how few people in Thailand know any other language besides Thai.
I studied French in high school but could only remember enough to carry only basic conversations like asking for directions, asking for help in a store, etc.
I studied abroad in the French part of Switzerland for a semester. Granted, the program was in English. Most people knew some English and about half were at least somewhat fluent.
Yup - I've done it several times. The first year tends to be hardest - after that, I find that I can usually communicate most of my needs, albeit not quite perfectly (which has always been okay).
