IN NO ORDER

Jakarta
Singapore
Honolulu
Kuala Lumpur
Barraquilla
Miami
Cancun
Rio de Janiero
Brasilia
Darwin

Most of the world class cities are not in the tropical regions. But, there are some good ones.

Rio is amazing... It has such culture, diversity, and a vibrant economy... Also has strong research industries and universities...

Miami is more subtropical than tropical, though.

Miami is, I think, just right outside the tropic of Cancer about as close as you can get without being in it. Rio is just inside the tropic of Capricorn but doesn´t experience the cold fronts Miami can in winter due to the continental effect. I don´t think if I made this list I would put Brasilia on it. I don´t know any Brazilian who would put Brasilia on this list. Probably would put Salvador on this list before Brasilia. I guess Sao Paulo would be disqualified because it is right outside the tropics? Also, is Cancun even a city? I always thought it was just a bunch of hotels.

No, it's tropical. The southern 1/4 of Florida qualifies as true tropical.

I haven't heard many good things about Jakarta. Hong Kong is technically just south of the Tropic of Cancer. Mexico City is in the tropics too. What about Manaus, Brazil, or Lima, Peru? Lagos looks interesting but really hectic. Port Au Prince and San Juan have history and scenery.

I've actually been to 9 of them!

I will say that Brasilia kinda sucked, and Darwin was quite small to be a 'city'. I'm also surprised Barraquilla would be on the list, rather than Cartagena.

Otherwise, interesting list indeed

Miami's record low temperature is 27F (-1C). Lows regularly dip toward the low-50's during the cool season. Not to mention at least one well-documented incident of snow flurries in the 70's. That's just a bit too chilly to truly be a part of the tropics, regardless of the city's Koppen classification.

Of the cities listed, the selection seems a bit random. I wouldn't call Jakarta the best city on the island of Java, let alone Indonesia, let alone the entire tropics...

I'd pick Salvador, Brazil over Brasilia. Cartagena and Panama City should be on the list as well. Jakarta isn't the best city in Indonesia or on Java--most people prefer Yogyakarta. I'd say Ho Chi Minh City is more enjoyable than Jakarta(though Hanoi is better than both although I'm not sure if that's considered tropical).

I'd also go with San Juan, Puerto Rico, Havana, or Santo Domingo, DR or even a host of Mexican cities over Cancun, which is mainly a tourist resort with a fairly boring Mexican city adjacent to it. But that's just my opinion.
