If I had to pick one per continent:

North America - San José, Costa Rica (Central America is technically part of the North American continent)
South America - Santiago, Chile
Europe - Lisbon, Portugal
Africa - Cape Town, South Africa (legislative capital)
Asia - Singapore
Oceania - Canberra, Australia

Of the places I have been, I'd have to say London. There are quite a few European capitols that I can imagine would be at the top of my list but I haven't had a chance to get to them yet.

Since I'm very interested in politics, I wouldn't mind living in Washington.

I'll pick three from every continent.

Asia:
- Tokyo (Japan)
- Bangkok (Thailand)
- Manila (Philippines)

Europe:
- Madrid (Spain)
- Amsterdam (Netherlands)
- Copenhagen (Denmark)

N.America:
- Belize (Belize)
- Panama City (Panama)
- Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic)

S.America
- Buenos Aires (Argentina)
- Quitto (Ecuador)
- Santiago (Chile)

Africa:
- Cape Town (S.Africa

Really not much to hang in the christmas-tree from North-, South America and Africa.
(Regarding capitals).

And of course, the list would be a little different if I had a job paying me $1mil+/year
or if I had an unlimited bank account.

Washington, D.C. metro area is where I grew up and have lived most of my life. It's been good and I recommend it.

I would live in London in a heartbeat if I had enough money to live affluently.
