Hospital Quirón is included in my insurance, and I pay 120 dollars/month.
Transportation is not included in my particular insurance.
I also have Social Security that covers everything, but there are waiting lists for major interventions.
The problem in the US are those big rackets you have there, AMA, insurance companies, Medicaid Scams...just plain conspiracy and corruption. The US spends far more money per inhabitant than Spain, but the result is catastrophic if you're not a senior or a very poor person with no properties.
I guess we do not have those scams because the Social Security was founded during a corporative system with military laws, and was part of the Fascist ideology.

The best hospitals and clinics are in the US, no question about it. Here in Spain, many wealthy people end up in American Clinics and Hospitals.

The best medical schools are there too.

And many poor and middle class people from Scandinavia etc, are sent to the top-class hospitals because their physicians thought it medically called for. With their UHC systems paying. The worlds best hospitals are equally accessible to the rich from all nations. And I suspect, more accessible for the poor and middle classes in Europe, than their equivalents in the USA.

The best hospitals in Spain are part of the Social Security system. Expensive hospital and clinics are somewhat specialized, and accesible with a common private insurance.

I've just joined the forum to take part in the interesting discussions here.

For me it's not just the service/quality you receive when you are in medical care - it's rather the full package.
In my opinion the quality of healthcare here in Europe is very similar and I guess the quality can also be compared to the healthcare of North America. However providing an equal healthcare to all citizens is not less important than the quality. That means, if only the rich people of a country get a good medical care I wouldn't consider that system as good or the best.
Here in Germany for example everyone gets health insurance and our medical facilities are on a high level of quality (like many countries). Even when you are unemployed the country pays for your health insurance. If you are employed, then you have to pay a percentage of your income (I pay about 15% of my income for health insurance), which is limited when you have a high-paid job.
If you have an accident or an unexpected disease and you have to be in a hospital for a year or more, you don't have to worry about the fees because everything is covered by the basic health insurance.
You can also get a private health insurance, which is cheap for students (reasonable plans start at about 100$) but it can get more expensive for families (up to 1000$ and more).

I could write pages about how the healthcare system works here.

American health care is probably of the highest quality in the world. We have the best specialists, best surgeons, and best technology, and boast the highest survival rates (sometimes higher than any European country by far) for numerous cancers. We have more MRIs (per capita), CTs (per capita), cobalt radiation therapy machines, etc. than any other country in the world.

Where the U.S. fails is affordable delivery of that care, especially to the working poor and lower middle class families. The idle poor are generally covered by Medicaid; senior citizens are covered by Medicare; the rich and upper middle class (many of them doctors themselves) normally do not struggle with health care expenses.

Probably in Scandinavia and Holland, as in everything else.

Add Thailand to that list for excellent medical care. For what you would pay in the U.S. for a full, executive check up you have that, plus a great vacation. Some insurance companies in the U.S., I have heard, are encouraging people to go to these places because the treatments are comparable at a much reduced cost.

Our drug costs are prohibitive because other countries regulate the price of US drugs. US drug companies make up the difference by raising the price to the American consumer.

My son was born in the States in 2001 -billing was about USD12,000 and my daughter was born in 2003 - billing was about USD20,000.
If both of them are born in the govt hospital in Malaysia today - it cost about RM5 which about USD 1.50 ( in the govt hospital 3rd class ward. ) And would cost about RM 5,000 which is about USD 2,000 in a private hospital of 5 stars ratings. Exchange rate is about 1 - 2.8.

For simple ailments ( cough cold or fever ) - you see a GP and paid RM50 for the consultation with package of medications dispense by the clinic. Otherwise, you have the option for prescription of drugs outside where the doctor would charge you consultation for about Rm15.

But of course, the best health care depends on how much you can afford to pay. If you are able to pay top dollars, USA is still the place especially if you are in the cardiac, organ transplant, oncology or even the best boob jobs by the plastic surgeons.
