What's your favourite?
In terms of urban density, San Francisco is certainly two or three (Chicago) in the US, in terms of living expenses, especially housing, it can be even more expensive than Manhattan, and San Francisco is headquarters or major regional center for two of the US's for major money-center banks (the other two are headquartered in New York), insurance companies, and real estate investment firms, etc. ...

Now whether the owners, managers and top employees are hip alternatives, artists, students, etc. or just pretend to be I do not know, but for sure they live off the cash flow directly and indirectly, like everybody else.

Out of those I've only been to Melbourne - well I live here - but Barcelona and Montreal seem nice, and SF of course.

I never travelled to any of these cities in the poll.
My favourite city in the world is Vienna, and Paris is the second one. I don't know, however, if I would like to live in these cities because they would lose their charm. For living, I would rather prefer less touristic cities, and more business-oriented, such as Milan or Munich.
