I think Haiti, Central African Republic, Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan are more dangerous than Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Ecuador.
I don't think many of these places are that dangerous, i voted for Honduras mostly because it has the highest murder rate in the world and the dsituation doesn't seem to be improving, San Pedro de Sula has topped the list for a few years now.
Having visited twenty of the countries on the list, and not finding anything there that seemed at all threatening, I'd be hard pressed to rank them.
There are certain cities in the world that I wouldn't want to be in the wrong part neighborhood at the wrong time of day, but that wouldn't make the country dangerous, and vice versa. I've stayed overnight in places like Maceio and San Pedro Sula and Lagos, and they seemed just like anywhere else.
I don't think there are any dangerous "countries" as such, there isn't any place where I would not trust the local people to come to my aid if necessary. But I wouldn't trust the police in any country, not even the USA.
As far as dangerous is concerned, in the third world one is far more likely to be killed by a macho bus driver or an incompetent doctor, than by a murderer.
I think we have to distinguish between dangerous places and dangerous country. For example, without special training, you will not be able to get to here and come back to civilization:
Although locals residents live there all year round. This dangerous places in not dangerous country.
