Default European country poll

My 3 favorite are the ones I visited: France, Switzerland, and Italy. I liked them all for different reasons.

-France (Paris was a nice city, and the countryside is nice too)
-Switzerland (Beautiful Alps)
-Italy (lots of historical sites and architecture, great food)

I chose France, largely because I enjoy Paris. I like to visit a city on foot, walking a great deal to find my way around. Of the few cities I have walked, Paris has afforded me the most interesting adventure, the highlight of which was walking from Champs Elysee to Blvd St Michel at about 5 a.m., after a night of clubbing.

There was not a peep of traffic - air, auto or foot, other than mine. It was an awesome sunrise and Paris was mine. I look forward to doing that again.

I actually like Albania a lot. It's a developing country that had some terrible problems in the 90's, and still has problems, but which is improving. It feels youthful and hopeful.

I love Serbia. That's where I am from and where I lived for 17 years. Unfortunately educational system is not the best, but that country, especially Belgrade, has a soul like no other country. Although I have to admit, other than Serbia, I REALLY like Greece, Italy, France, and Austria. But of course, all the rest of them like Germany, and others are wonderful as well.

Portugal is my favorite. I spent 3 weeks in the Algarve renting a house on a cliff over the beach. One of the best times of my life. The entire trip was 8 mos. - I back-packed all over Europe. I also loved Germany (family there) Austria and Norway. Was at the Berlin wall just after it came down.

Didn't care for Paris (bad experience) but loved Louvier (sp?) and Rouen.

London is also one of my favorite places.

- Makes me want to hop a plane and do it all over again...

I must say I have a fondness for Der Vaterland. Although it may seem like the Germans are overly meticulous and negative, they're above-all honest. They'll tell you how they feel, and won't candy coat it with niceities like we do here in the states....I think thats admirable...

Plus..come on...THE BIER!

What a whopping surprise it was to view the poll results! No way did I think that France would have 31%, the most of all.
I lived in Germany for more than 18 years and liked it many times, also had times when I despised it. But my views now are that Germany is an interesting country. I've visited France many times and admired the nation very much. Like one poster already mentioned his walk thru Paris at 5am, I also liked to walk the streets from early morning until well past midnite.
Of all the European countries mentioned I think I could spend 3 lifetimes traveling around to see them all.

I love Paris but could not see myself living there, maybe somewhere in the South.
