I think the best places are in America in areas where there are a lot of African Americans living, here in California there are a number of cities that have large black populations, some have blacks in politics as well so they control things to some degree, an example is Oakland. I think California is less racist towards black people than most areas of the U.S.
I think a lot of people still have the wrong idea that i am trying to get out. I want to emerse myself in culture. What cultures can I not be spat upon if i decided I loved that culture so much I might live there.
Its not racism as much as tribes, you sound like you would belong in africa,i have a friend who plans to move there and start a buisness.its wide open for being developed.i mean you even phrazed the question with african american.people are always going to look at you,and look even more if you are of a different race, its human nature.im from canada and my folks are from holland,i never refer to myself as a dutch canadian american.so right now im looking to move somewhere else in the usa,and my wife is asian,so the wondering where to live thing is in my mind also, good luck!
Australia..? From what I understand, they don't even treat the the indigenous black Aborgines fairly; so , why would life be any better for an African American living there.

I believe that I understand your point, because I have often asked the same question myself. Although I have visited, but not lived there for any extended time, I believe the majority Black and Afro-Latino Islands of the Carribean and South America would be a good place for African Americans to live and be emersed in culture. My son, who has a college degree in Global Studies, is currently in Equador, doing research and teaching in Afro-Latino Villages. This is his third time there, and he absolutely loves the Afro-Latino Culture and black people there. To my surprise, he told me that there are many richly cultured Afro-Latino communities throughout South America.
South America has a rich African/ Yoruba tradition...but is also very color concious. There is the whole dark vs. light-skinned thing there. I was there when I was little, during a time when they wouldn't even sell brown dolls in stores. I was amazed when I went to Italy... I guess living in America, you sort of get used to the 'American' ideals of beauty. As a black woman, I found people constantly appreciating my beauty. However, they will see you as American...and many Europeans harbor predjudices and resentment towards African immigrants. I really enjoyed my time in Italy...and if you want to be immersed in a great culture, Italy is rich in art/ architecture/ history...and incredible food! However, anywhere you go...you will need to be mindful that people will likely see you as an American, and our foreign policies have definately isolated us and present many with an unfavorable view of America. I have found that young (college age) people in Europe are really educated on world history, philosophy, and politics, and are generally wanting to have open discussions and exchange of ideas.
ummmmm, isn't that segregation? People had that same idea when they signed Plessy v. Ferguson. I don't mean to sound rude but i found offense to that.
Well I guess it would be self segregation, certainly no one is making black people live in certain areas, I just know for a a fact that a lot of African American people move here to California from other areas because they feel comfortable in certain areas. I have talked firsthand to people from other areas who have said this so I didn't mean to be offensive I think you took anything I said the wrong way. As I said before, California is a tolerant area overall so you could live in most areas of the state and not have any problems with people.
I thought about South America but i think now I may only visit there. My teacher is from colombia and she says that it is not very good right now. Plus, I am studying aout that anti-american stuff growing stronger in venezuela? I think.

Are these in urban or rural areas? I guess I coul ask everyone that. Are the countries everyone is advertising for cities or towns.
Trying2Know, I can only speak as a black female who spent the summer working and living in SW London, but while there, I experienced nothing but kind-hearted hospitality. But I can honestly say that the only way you're going to find the best place for you is if you do some traveling of your own. Too many people have far too many different experiences/outlooks in order to give you a definitive statement about where the "best" place is for black Americans.
For example, homogeneous as Japan may be, my friend, a black American man, taught English in Japan for two years. He absolutely LOVED it out there, and the only reason he's back in the States now is because his visa expired. But that was his experience. It all varies from person to person.
I would recommend that you pick a place you're interested in - whether it's here in the States or elsewhere - do some research, save some money, set some time off from work, and book a flight! Just please don't let the color of your skin keep you from seeing what the world has to offer.
