Funny to see everybody saying "Spain" because it's an european country.
FYI, Spain has terrorists that like to blow things up = ETA.
Are you aware of a country that doesn't??
These days, ETA is nothing more than a small group of idiotic youths spoiling for a fight.....about anything. The Basque area of Spain has had autonomy since 1978. It has its own government, its own police force and collects its own taxes.
Spain is good for employment (high salaries), high (european) standard of living, everything available (whatever food you want to eat, every brand of clothes, etc.), good roads, public transport, full of historic buildings, nice food, etc.
However it's a bit expensive and people are used to foreigners so not very friendly. Also not as exotic as Latin America.
I liked Cuba, but it's going to be difficult to get employment there. But as a tourist I would definately recommend to visit the island, very beautiful and special. They speak a kind of carabian Spanish, it needs some getting used to...
for living and working maybe Argentina would be ideal. Not thirth world, but still exotic and quite cheap.
Spain is good for employment (high salaries), .....
Not any more. The world recession has hit us hard. Unemployment is at 21%. It's not really a true figure as it includes people who have taken early retirement, which many do.
Unemployment among the 16 to 29-year-olds is estimated to be around 45%.
I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned Panama! It consistently ranks as one of the best places to retire in the world (not that the OP is retiring, but still). Panama City is also considered to be quite the business hub.
I thought that Venezuela and Mexico are the most dangerous countries in Latin America...
In Mexico 95%-99% of the drug violence is situated in the Northern States more specifically the border states and border cities. Also, the majority of the deaths have been people who were involved with the cartels and drugs. The innocent bystanders that have died were unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time. Although, I wouldn't recommend traveling to Mexico by road as you'd have to cross those northern states; it's better to fly by plane further into the country. The rest of the country is as dangerous as any other developed country or sometimes even less; for example LA and New York City have higher murder rates than Mexico City.
Also, Mexico is not the third world country most people like to believe it's economy was not as effected as the EU and USA; Mexico only has 4.8% unemployment rate and it's economy is currently growing faster than the U.S. economy (in 2010 it grew 5.5% and this year it's expected to grow another 4.5%, while the U.S. will only grow 2.7%). It's obviously not at the level of some countries like Canada and the U.S., but it'll get there in a few years as it's considered a country of high development or middle income country.
Someone had posted a chart on these forums that compared unemployment with Mexico (which is at 4.8%) and Spain was around 22%. I couldn't find the post anymore, so I searched on google and found this newspaper that claims it's 21.3%, so I was off by very little.
