Who has backpacked across nations?
And if so, which ones?

When i was 16 i bought a backpack full of illegal fireworks in Belgium and sneaked past the Dutch border (where they were checking for fireworks) by foot.

Not sure what you mean. On foot? Or traveled with a backpack, which is extremely common in certain age groups. I've been all over Europe several times with a backpack. Mostly the German-speaking countries and Scandinavia, and Romania.

Yesh, only way to go. More than 100 countries. I don't backpack, I just carry a bag with a shoulder strap, no more than about 10-12 pounds, there's nothing I need for a 6-month trip that won't fit in there. Good walking shoes, wear them all the time, never take a taxi less than a mile or two. Any more than that, I take local public transport, but I guess I've walked more than 5 miles when there is no other way. I was still doing it when I was nearly 60. But I never trekked long distances. No tent or anything, Im not that hard-core, you can always find a place to sleep.

In terms of Europe, I think most people just use the cheap budget Airlines now or Eurostar. The European Inter Rail Cards and Eurail Cardsoffering discounts for young people are also popular and I have done my share of travelling. Although most British gap year University Students these days tend to prefer more exotic locations to their own European continent. such as the Far East, South America, Australia or parts of Africa .
