I tried to talk a friend of mine out of marrying her husband. He spent a lot of time with prostitutes and in strip clubs. The marriage was tumultuous and he wound up cheating on her with, you guessed it, a prostitute. She passed away and he went right back to the sleazy lifestyle he just couldn't leave behind. So no, I would not really like to date someone who's been involved with that lifestyle.

How would most average women in your country view such a man? Would they generally be forgiving/understanding? Of course it depends on personality/religion.etc.

It seems there are many American women who wouldn't even a consider a man who had been to a hooker once. Is this the case in your experience? Yet these women still fawn over men who have been with dozens of women, even if he 'bought his way' into their pants with drinks or money or whatever.

Here prostitution is legal but not exactly tolerated either...plenty of men from all walks visit them (many married and no single, which of course I do not condone), but like the US there is definitely some stigma.

Is there a lot less stigma in Europe? Not that I'm planning on whoring it up, I'm watching a programme about the legality of prostitution and it just got me thinking.

In places like Thailand I hear it's a 'rite of passage' for men to lose their virginity in brothels. While I do not see this as admirable, I imagine when it comes to settle down, most women just accept it as part of their culture. I hear in Japan many wives even accept that their husbands might need a 'comfort woman' now and then aside from her, for whatever reason, although I'm sure this attitude isn't as widespread as some believe.

I mean on the flip-side, maybe it's partly justified since how many men would accept a woman who was a prostitute for a serious relationship? Even if it was well in the past?
Where is "here", that prostitution is legal? Where do you live?

men: if you used prostitutes, don't tell your girl.

women: if you had an abortion or had many partners don't tell your boy.

There are somethings you don't tell and everyone is happier as a result.

in places like amsterdam there are many hot prostitutes like those girls. And they're 30-50 euros a pop.

I never used one though, having sex with a woman is about companionship on some very basic level. I have no interest in paying some girl. Moderator cut: bit too explicit

Australia, although laws vary by state. I think it was illegal here in WA until quite recently, actually. It says that brothels are illegal but there are brothels legally operating here so I don't know.

The American women I've met seemed really polarized about it. Either they thought it was OK so long as you were both consenting, of legal age, and didn't contract any diseases; or they were vehemently against it and didn't want anything to do with the guy.

According to my wife, who is Japanese, there's a dependency on the services acquired.

In Japan, loose interpretation of the law, loose enforcement, and concept of "otoko dakara sa, shi kata ga nai" or "they're men, it can't be helped" carries with it a sense of acceptance of when men go to see sex workers. But, there's a catch: the act of intercourse is frowned upon by the other women and many will immediately cease to talk to you if you admit it. You can have a massage with a "happy ending", or be on the receiving end of a toy, or on the giving end with a toy, ... or other unmentionables if we keep this PG-13 ... whatever. But intercourse is taboo.

Now your wife or girlfriend probably won't like it very much and ask why couldn't you ask them to do it, don't they do it for you, etc. Some respect and honor of your SO is required there. But if you're single while you saw them ... no biggie, so long as it wasn't actual sex.

Interesting...yes I've heard Japan is really obsessed with sex and anything sex-related: like it's easy to find porn and other weird fetish things, but it's hard to just find regular sex. Also in porn the genitals are blurred!

i dont think american women are as put off by this as many of you seem to believe. it certainly hasn't hurt my chances. granted, i am talking about hookups, not relationships. but i have no interest in relationships so i guess that ultimately doesn't matter. but american women still express interest even tho it is well known in my social circles that i blow pretty much all my money on prostitutes.

When younger I used to have a more romanticized view of male/female relationships. Life experience has shown me the other side and while I do believe love exists out there, when it comes down to it, women are all about what they can feather their nest with and accumulate. It's always been that way and always will be. As a man if you think otherwise and you think your woman is with you for your good looks or witty personality, I would make a closer examination of what is going on.

So one way or another you are going to pay. So you can either pay upfront cash or credit card or pay by taking them on a "date" with nice dinners, shopping, and various other goods and services and later on rings, weddings, houses, vacation, cars, etc and then getting further chained down with kids and what they want. And if you don't pay in a relationship, expect emotional manipulation to squeeze you to get what they want. Whether it's a ***** or long term relationship, some sort of transfer payment is involved. With the *****, at least everyone has cut through the BS and is upfront about exactly what is going on.

In regards to any stigma, well, women can hardly criticize a man for seeing an escort when all too many of them had many drunken nights with odd guys in Cancun or Panama City Beach.

Personally I have never been to an escort or anything like that, but I do know people that have overseas and they have their reasons for it and I understand their position, if I don't completely morally agree with it, yes, despite what I said above.
