I know this I spent most of my childhood in Spain and currently live there. But I am just surprised at how acceptable homosexuality has become in such a deeply traditional catholic county. What a turnaround.
It's funny, I'm gay, in the U.S., and I've thought about moving to these countries not knowing how they've been attracting gays. Maybe it's encoded in our genes, we need to migrate south, relatively.

Haha, I think EVERYONE from cold, Northern places is attracted to countries like Spain

It´s true, especially for myself being from Scotland and this year there has been virtually no summer, which is the total opposite here where it was 38ºC (100ºF) today!
The image of the Catholic Church in Spain has been tainted for years. The Catholic hierarchy was aligned with the dictatorship of Fransisco Franco.
Although I'm Catholic from what I can tell this is true. We had a Spanish foreign exchange student when I was in High School and he mentioned this.
On the flipside Scotland was, at one time, kind of Calvinist. Calvinists were, I believe, once a bit more interventionist on morality than Catholics. Some Catholic cultures would be brutal to any public heresy, I grant that, but sometimes even those were "looser" about stuff inside the home. Calvinists I think felt getting involved in people's home lives was important. And in fairness some of that was good. (Get involved in abusive domestic situations for example. Also this isn't absolute. Some Catholics were very into private homes and others not)
They're definitely not - I know not one person who is attracted to Spain - far too hot for most of my fair-skinned family.
There's always northern Spain, from Donostia (San Sebastián) to Viveiro. More suited to your tastes (and to mine), although I suppose the climate is a bit too mild...

And they're far from sorry about that...
