For me, it's always nice to soften the hardness of the concrete and glass buildings with some nature. So Hong Kong is the best out of this list, for me. A backdrop of mountains is lovely versus just a bunch of big buildings. If you had Vancouver in this list, I'd put it first.

if the number of buildings over a certain height (3-4 hundred feet) is the determining factor then there's really only 3 or 4 cities that can be mentioned (as the best)
top cities would be Chicago, New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai and maybe Tokyo
next group would be Toronto, Dubai, Seattle, Seoul.
cities that do have a nice skyline but don't have the height like London, Vancouver, Sydney get underrated.

I picked Chicago, but I'm biased because I live here. If I could choose more than one it would be Hong Kong and Shanghai both of which are top 5 skylines in their own right.

Now, I'd pick NYC, Paris, or Miami (this is my city - I have to give it honorable mention). Chicago has some pretty impressive buildings in the pipeline, so in 5 or 10 years I think Chi-town will be awesome. Especially from Lake Michigan - I've never seen anything so beautiful than the Windy City skyline on a summer night from a boat on the lake. Wow.... still gives me shivers.

London? Some buildings in the docklands are quite nice... but the only thing that looks somehow beautiful (skyline-wise) is St. Pauls Cathedral at night. I wouldn't put London amongst the most beautiful skylines at all.

I voted for Hong Kong but am not surprised that New York is winning the poll right now. Most people in this forum are in the US. Also, New York's skyline has a great mixture of old and new skyscrapers whereas Hong Kong is mainly new stuff. Many of the skyscrapers that were in HK when I lived there in the early 80s have already been demolished and replaced with newer, taller buildings. But HK definitely has the more dramatic setting.
