It's not just about what kind of animals are OK to eat (cute ones or ugly ones). I would never eat dog, but they breed well, probably taste fine, so are acceptable as a food source in cultures unlike mine.

But, I can't help but hold many Asian countries in great contempt for their use and abuse of live animals of all kinds from around the world... based mostly on ancient superstitions.

Along with habitat destruction, Asian demand is the biggest reason for most wildlife species extinctions and endangerments.

These vast gruesome acts of heartless cruelty goes on in every corner of this globe...and yet only the brave few - I, being one of them, stand up to fight for our botanical brothers and sisters. It truly, truly shocks the conscience.
Onions are pulled and starved of food and water, skinned alive, then sliced with a sharp knife every which way possible, and tossed to die into a hot pan!

I don't always fix dog, but when I do, it's always a dead one!

The fact is, we all do some things that are wrong. We become, not better, but even lower creatures when we add to the list of ethical crimes.

Who are YOU to tell others not to judge? We pass judgments all the time, and this is a good thing. Every time you make a decision you are judging. Some cultures ARE lower than others. There is nothing wrong in stating that. The US is judged for intervening in cultures around the world. Often rightly so. Well, I think it is disgusting that people eat creatures that are almost thought of as children in parts of the world.

It is cold and heartless. Almost cannibalism.

There are about six Chinese restaurant in my vicinity. They all purchase WonTons, premade. They have thick crude and ugly looking noodle with what I took to be a mystery meat. I stopped eating that after I found a dog's nail in one. I used to trim my German Shepherd's nails and know what they look like.

I will not purchase any food in my supermarket that is made in China.

This was quite shocking for me. I don't think we inspect much of the food that comes into the country.

Well then, since you said everyone judges, that means your culture (America's) is fair game too. Don't get offended if Hindus criticise your country for eating beef, or Muslims for eating of pork, or if people consider American food just "fast food junk", or sneer at you guys for being "picky eaters"...

And I do not buy for one second that one culture is "higher" than another all across the board (emphasis on "all across the board"). Yes Asians may be "lower" on the animal rights front, but Asians can charge back and say the American sense of family values as "lower" and will cite your country's divorce rates, teenage pregnancy incidence, drug abuse rates, and the like as evidence of such. This is just how I, a non-American from Asia, see it. And btw, I already know which form of "lower" I would rather be - and it's definitely not the latter... Just my two cents so don't get mad. I'm only putting things in a more international perspective for you!

Of course I don't think that one culture 'has it all'. As long as we are composed of humans we will have problems, usually the larger and more diverse the population, the harder it is to govern well. I agree with most of the things you've said.

I think people in the US have children without thinking if they have a stable enough situation to provide for them. I think we marry too easily and frequently for the wrong reasons. I think our kids don't respect their elders, but on the other hand many people don't deserve that respect, going through their entire lives not learning a darned thing and never changing one opinion that they had in their twenties. I think there are too many American schools that underperform and too many students who view it as a waste of time. I think our politicians, both parties, plus agencies of the government, are owned by corporations.

Get mad - me? - I wish you'd have some constructive ideas on how to turn this thing around.

Just curious, what makes a dog or cat morally unacceptable to eat, but a cow or pig or chicken or goat or sheep morally acceptable?

I would probably not eat dog or cat meat myself, but I don't judge those who do.
