Global city - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Going with the exact same system (alpha-beta-gamma) from that wikipedia link, where would you rank the countries in the world?

The first 7 are no-brainers but then...

Alpha++:
USA (1 and only)

Alpha+:
UK
France
Germany
Russia
China
Japan

Not so sure about Turkey, South Africa and Argentina over the Netherlands, Switzerland and Norway.
What about Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore?

They have smaller populations so I don't think they have much international clout. I was thinking where abouts I would put Sweden or the Netherlands considering both can be considered 'medium powers' and have large economies relative to their population size (some resources put Sweden in the top 20, which would (or should) make it part of the G20 club).

I'd say China is Alpha++ now with the US. It's the US's equal in almost every department, nowadays.

Australia seems well placed. The others seem right.

This whole topic is so subjectively arbitrary and based on nebulous concepts of personal and political favoritism, that Wiki has been forced to lock the original to protect it from vandalism.

Really? Then why is China's GDP per capita only 17% that of the U.S.?

Even countries like Ecuador and Jamaica are ahead of China.

There must be a reason why 90% of your posts are political.. feel free not to contribute to threads you feel are beneath your high and mighty self-righteousness crap.

You can discuss whatever you want. My objection was not to this thread, but to the merit of concept it is based on, and I wanted to bring to your attention that even Wikipedia, by locking the article, recognizes that it is basically predicated on manipulations of BS (an observation that is legitimate input into the topic) and no verifiable data exists that can quantify what the concept purports to measure.
