London is the worlds banking centre but the worlds capital would be Washington DC of course. It would be about economic and geo political power and influence. It pretty much is now.

London? Is this AD 1774?
Oh, and it should be as far away from me as possible, so Singapore works OK.

London didn't stop being an important city when it stopped being the capital of your country, it only became more powerful than ever. Just 70 years ago the British Empire still ruled over countless nations and vast swaths of the Earth, and London still dominates in a ton of sectors, including global finance. It easily competes with New York as one of the earth's two Alpha cities and in many ways outshines it. This is no sleepy European backwater, the empire may be gone and England struggling, but London as a city just continues to dominate.

'Dominate' in terms of what? It's a financial center yes (probably THE financial center), but I see that as a problem for the UK, as its economy is so heavily reliant on the financial sector. Given recent EU negotiations it appears that it's not really that influential in Europe, let alone the world.

Stating reality is not akin to 'bashing'. Is my post incorrect in some way?

Yes it is, while I am NOT going to start arguing about what should be a 'world' capital or which is the 'best' city in the world to describe London as not being dominant in anything is doing the city a HUGE disservice, isnt London dominant over other cities for museums? ethnicity? green spaces? Theatre performancies, what about sports? London is the home of football (Wembley), Rugby Union (Twickenham), the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, it is the spiritual home of cricket (Lords), can you name any other city that has such a sporting culture? - Im sure I could go on. Like I said I am not necessary 'claiming' that London is the 'worlds greatest' city but to dismiss it the way you have is just....wrong!
