You forgot that if the entire world was one country, there wouldn't be a Singapore legal system.

San Francisco, that's where Star Fleet is headquartered.

New York has all that. And there is an educated NY accent as much as the stereotypical accent, much like there is an educated British accent and one that is not so posh.

Tall buildings may not make a skyline.. but it sure doesn't hurt it either.

They sure did. Too bad it's all gone except for Ascension, Tristan da Cunha, Pitcairn, Falklands, BVI, (cant remember the rest of the tiny outposts of her majesty). I'm glad the yanks came to their aid against the nazis, otherwise they'd be speaking Deutsche and eating currywurst in London (thank god).

Why aren't cities like Tokyo, Shanghai, etc. on the list?

You're all missing the obvious choice. Rome..the only city that was ever truly the capital of the world.

BTW, as way of trivia the word capital comes from two words:

Cap: Latin for head

Ital: If that words looks familiar it should, it is short for Italy.

So the world capital literally means Head of Italy.

Rome..the Eternal City.

wOw. I'm the only one who voted for Los Angeles. Hmmm. Let me think up a quick rationale.

1) Hollywood movies go to all countries=most culturally invasive city
2) Insignificant in world history=no long-simmering war memories
3) Over 224 languages spoken in L.A.=everyone probably has a relative here
4) No important religious monuments or sacred sites=religiously neutral turf
5) Zero skyline, bland architecture, no particular "identity"=blank slate

I'd appreciate if you didn't use the deadliest war in history as one-upmanship, I have relations who were killed in the world wars
