In the US, it's the number 13. Some buildings omit a 13th floor.

In Italy, it's the number 17. I once looked up why, but I don't recall.

Do you know of "unlucky" numbers in other countries?

In China, eight is a lucky number and four is an unlucky number.

In Vancouver, a city with a population that's mostly a mix of Anglo Canadian and Chinese, it gets really silly with the condo buildings they put up because they omit both the fourth floor and thirteenth, so if you're on the 20th floor you're really on the 18th -_-

I would have never thought that, but it makes sense. I'll never look at YVR's West End and Yaletown the same.

In Russia it's 13, but nobody really cares, and it's not ommited from anything. Coincidentally, our current personal income tax rate is 13%.

Thinking numbers are unlucky is pretty stupid, I think, to the extent of omitting floors on elevators etc.

In Singapore a lot of price tags have '8' in them. I saw a really expensive fish for $8888 lol.

^^^ Is the number 87 considered unlucky in Australia? I've heard Aussie cricket commentators say so . They say the Aussie batsmen try to score quickly when they are on 87 (13 short of a century), while English batsmen would try to avoid 13.

Not unlucky necessarily, but Afghans associate the number 39 with prostitution so people try to avoid the number in anything associated with them such as their phone number or license plate number.

From Wikipedia:
"An elevator in a residential apartment building in Shanghai. Floor numbers 4, 13 and 14 are missing, and there is a button for the "negative first floor"."

That's what I call superstition
